History of Veterinary Medicine and Deontology
The Department of History of Veterinary Medicine and Deontology is a core scientific field that explores the historical development of the veterinary profession, professional ethical principles, and legal responsibilities. In this department, students learn about the evolution of veterinary medicine from ancient times to the present, the development of the profession in the world, Turkey, and Azerbaijan, prominent scientists in the field, and the history of veterinary education institutions.
The deontology (professional ethics) component teaches students the ethical values of the veterinary profession and their responsibilities toward society, animals, the environment, and their colleagues. Topics such as animal welfare, professional independence, confidentiality, ethical dilemmas, and proper professional conduct are emphasized.
In addition, the course covers practical topics including the legal status of veterinarians, professional regulations, consequences of ethical violations, ethical principles in client communication, and public responsibilities.
This department aims to help future veterinarians develop a historical and ethical perspective toward their profession, build their professional identity consciously, and act as trustworthy healthcare professionals in the eyes of society.
